Peter eckert landscape design
Peter Eckert Landscape Design was established in 2007, and is based both in Manhattan and Litchfield County Connecticut. Peter works closely with his clients, as well as other designers and architects involved in the project, to create meaningful landscapes based on classical design principals to guide the structure and organization of spaces, that often have a modern simplicity.
He believes his gardens should respond to the architecture, the site and its context, and the client’s sense of aesthetic, all of which strongly influences the overall style of the final design. Peter is a plants person with a deep knowledge of both native plants and cultivated ornamentals which he combines with his keen eye for design and detail to create beautiful landscapes.
He grew up on Long Island with a love for the outdoors, which was enriched in an environment of enthusiastic gardeners. He graduated from Cornell with an emphasis in horticulture/landscape design and continued there to complete his graduate studies in landscape architecture. He returned to New York to work for a number of design offices including the noted landscape designer Edwina von Gal, where he focused on large estate projects on the East End of Long Island and Fairfield County, Connecticut, collaborating with many top architectural and interior design firms. He also worked for the Prospect Park Alliance in Brooklyn overseeing the restoration of the picturesque Ravine landscape in Prospect Park. His work earned him a New York City Landmarks Preservation Award. Peter has been involved in the landscape design profession for over twenty-five years, working nationally on both large and small scale projects in Manhattan, Long Island, Connecticut, New Jersey, Oklahoma, Colorado, California and Utah.
